An evening of racing, music, glamour and fundraising is on the (race)cards as the second annual Silver Bell Racenight at Hamilton Park Racecourse approaches on Wednesday 10th June.

Held in aid of Radio Clyde Cash for Kids appeal which raises money to support some of the most vulnerable children across the Strathclyde area, Silver Bell Racenight is Hamilton Park’s flagship summer meeting, and one of the highlights of the charitable social calendar.

Last year – which saw the prestigious Lanark Silver Bell, thought to be one of the oldest sporting trophies in the world, return to the racing arena after decades in storage – many community groups in and around Glasgow, including one from Robroyston, received funding as a direct result of the kind donations received, and this year the event organisers are hoping to top 2008’s success.

Cash for Kids helps more than 100,000 children in the local communities, and all the money raised as a result of the Silver Bell Racenight will give children who face financial, emotional and physical challenges, a Christmas they deserve and will remember.  Last year, Robroyston’s St Philomenas Primary was among the many groups that benefited from the generosity shown by local businesses and the general public and received Cash for Kids funding – and as a result were able to put on a Christmas panto, disco and party for the children.

At this year’s event, musical guests including the ‘next big thing’ Pixie Lott and Lanarkshire’s own covers band, Private Lessons will entertain guests, along with guest appearances during the night from Clyde 1 and Clyde 2 presenters.

“The Silver Bell Night in aid of Cash for Kids is sure to attract a fantastic turnout, just as it did last year,” said Vivien Kyles, chief executive at Hamilton Park Racecourse.

“This race night is one of the biggest in our calendar, with guest donning their best dress to enjoy one of the social occasions of the summer.  Packed with quality horseracing, a wealth of entertainment from new and established stars and oozing with all the glamour of the races, punters coming along to help this worthy local cause will be able to soak up the brilliant atmosphere both on and off the track.”
