A BROTHER and sister have been etched into history on new entrances to a Glasgow park.

Zita Dornan, 2, and five-year-old Mitchel were carved into new gates to Robroyston Park.

The entrance, made from recycled sandstone that was once part of the old Rotten Row Hospital, was designed to boost local pride in the area, as well as formalising the path from Rockfield Place to Robroyston Road.

Four schools were involved in the project, contributing their own designs while they learned about biodiversity and wildlife in the park.

St Catherine's, Barmulloch, Gadburn and Wallace Well primaries all attended a biodiversity day at the park, where pupils worked with artist Rona McNicol to create ceramic tiles of the wildlife they had seen.

Jackie Gillespie, of Kelvin Clyde Greenspace, said: "We have had very positive feedback.

"A lot of residents are very proud of this park, which is full of wildlife. It's creating ownership of this area.

"Zita and Mitchel's mum Theresa was nearly in tears she was so overcome.

"When they grow up they can show the carvings to their own grandchildren."
